The Finnish artist Jaakko Niemelä's exhibition GRID - MODELS OF UNEXPECTED consists of site-specific installations that interact with the architecture and exhibition halls of the Aarhus Art Building. Traditionally Jaakko Niemelä works in large scale and for the exhibition at the Aarhus Art Building he has created a total installation where ceiling, light and space recpectively dissolve into one another and float together. Jaakko Niemelä's works are full of contrasts - at the same time monumental and fragile - and often ligthing plays a central role in the shape of elements like video projections, shadow play or a strong light that shines through the destroyed or manipulated architectural structures. For inexplicable reasons it seems like ceilings crash down and destruction and construction become key words at the exhibition - in a concrete and material sense as well as in a symbolic sense. The exhibition deals with the unknown and the unexpected, the visible and the hidden.
The exhibition is Jaakko Niemelä's first solo exhibition in Denmark.
