THE PERFECT STAGE

For a number of years the artist duo J&K alias Janne Schäfer (DE) and Kristine Agergaard (DK) has been working with signs and clichés in a fiercely entertaining and colour-saturated universe. With humour and a surprising and almost shameless pilfering of symbolism from different cultures visitors are lead into constructed worlds where neo-colonial and cross-cultural problems are examined and thematized. The Perfect Stage investigates the notion of the perfect state and the perfect state of mind – the question of the existence of these notions and the exploration of whether they can even be realized. The exhibition is built up as a stage drawing the visitors into a psychedelic, abstract and illusory space that will function as a background for live performances and as the set for the shooting of Paradise Babylon – the trailer, a movie trailer for a non-existent movie. Moreover the exhibition will contain a number of smaller universes plus tools and relics for rituals; all of which are instruments for use in the duo’s search for the perfect state and the perfect state of mind.
